Relationship commitment is the theme of “The Big Bang Theory” Season 8 final episode, titled “The Commitment Determination.” The episode will feature the fifth anniversary of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy’s (Mayim Bialik) first meeting. And it looks like, there is no big date night planned to celebrate that, as Amy is going to start “pushing back” because she wants their relationship to pick speed.

“It has been five years, and even though things have been progressing, for Amy, it’s still, for her, not quite at the speed she'd like, so she really starts pushing back, and he's got relationships on his mind because of that,” Steven Molaro, showrunner of “The Big Bang Theory,” told The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

He also said to THR that Sheldon is unable to understand why he is getting grief for progressing slowly. Sheldon will be seen giving the example of Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) as another slow couple who got engaged more than a year ago but have yet to set a wedding date. According to the synopsis of the final episode, Sheldon will push Penny and Leonard to set their wedding date.

All the three unmarried couples of the show, Sheldon and Amy, Leonard and Penny, and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Emily (Laura Spencer) would be seen tackling commitment issues in the final episode. According to Molaro, Penny and Leonard as well as Sheldon and Amy would make some “huge, life-changing decisions.” And speaking about Raj and Emily’s relationship, he told THR that Raj will feel that they might not be the “best fit together” as a couple. Molaro said that Kate Micucci might return as Lucy but did not confirm whether she is a perfect fit for Raj.

Meanwhile, the penultimate episode will see Sheldon’s mother and Leonard’s mother meeting for the first time. Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski are returning in episode 23, titled “The Maternal Combustion,” to reprise their roles as Mary Cooper and Dr Beverly Hofstadter. The two will be arriving to see their sons win an award. The episode is set to see the mother of all face-offs, as religion and science are expected to collide thanks to a devout, born-again Christian and a cold neurologist.
