In the previous week, a post published on Google+ by David Schuster who is the senior director of software product management revealed that Android 5.1 firmware update would arrive very soon for Moto X (2013) and Moto X (2014) users. Again, Schuster has published a new Google+ post stating that the Android 5.1 Lollipop has already started for Moto X (2013) users in three countries.

According to David Schuster’s post, the OTA update of Android 5.1 is now available users who own the retail units of Moto X (1st Gen) in the U.S. and Brazil. Also, it is also being made available to Rogers customers in Canada.

The Motorola Moto X (1st Gen) is currently running on Android 4.4 KitKat and the arrival new firmware means that Motorola is skipping updates like Android 5.0 Lollipop and 5.0.2 Lollipop to directly bring Android 5.1 to the users.

Motorola states when the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update arrives on the device, users will see a notification. Users are required to select “Yes, I’m in.” It will begin downloading the firmware. Users are now required to select “Install now” to initiate the process. Once it is installed, the device will reboot and will get updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop (build 222.21.15)

Users are can also check for the OTA update manually. To do this, users have to navigate to Settings > About phone > System updates. It will start checking for newer update. When the latest update shows up, users need to select “Yes, I’m in” to start downloading the software and then select “install now” to begin installation. The device will reboot after the installation process gets over and get updated to build number build 222.21.15.

According to Motorola, the new firmware will bring the Material Design user interface of the Lollipop OS. It will incorporate Motorola exclusive apps like Motorola Assist, Motorola Active Display and so on. It also brings the improved Quick Settings. The Lollipop OS makes use of the new Android Runtime that helps in delivering better application performance. The new Recent apps, Smart Lock , flashlight, battery saver and many more features will arrive to Moto X (1st Gen) users.
