Ahead of the July 29 launch of the latest Windows 10, Microsoft releases an Xbox One system update. The new update will prepare the system for the upcoming Xbox 360 backwards compatibility and ability to stream games from Windows 10.

Larry Hryb, director of programming for Xbox Live at Microsoft wrote on his blog Major Nelson, “Later today Xbox One owners will be getting a system update”. He also added, “There are no new user-facing features in this release as the team focuses on the New Xbox One Experience that will be available later this year”.

Xbox 360 backwards compatibility will not hit the Xbox One for first few months but will be widely available later this year. Microsoft has already released a full list of backwards compatible titles which include Mass Effect 1 and Super Meat Boy. Moreover, users will be able to use new console features while playing it as well according to Twinfinite.

Xbox One Preview program members already have access to that new feature as reported by Polygon. Preview program members also have access to the Windows 10 game streaming that will enable Xbox One owners integrate their games to Windows 10 PCs and tablets.

As reported by GameSpot, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer confirmed and said, “We will treat gaming on Windows 10 with the same passion as we have put into the Xbox console.” It also reported that Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella opined that Xbox One, games and HoloLens are key parts of his vision for the future of the company.

According to Geeksnack with built in Xbox Live, Windows 10 devices will be able to sync friends, achievements, and other details about Xbox Live account. It will come with a streaming feature, allowing users to play Xbox One games on their PCs and Windows tablets. The streaming feature will also allow ‘cross-device multiplayer’, another revolutionary move from Microsoft. Thus, the launch of Windows 10 will pave the way for cross-platform play, game streaming between PC and Xbox One and the possibility of cross-purchase of games.
