With May already almost reaching its end, Major Nelson has already revealed, via Xbox Wire, the list of features Xbox One users can expect to debut with the June System Update. And one of them is the much-awaited feature for the two rival consoles, Xbox One and PS4: external storage support.

"Since our launch of Xbox One last year, we've been hard at work to continue making Xbox One the best destination for all your gaming and entertainment experiences," said Major Nelson via Xbox Wire. "Because of the way we've designed the Xbox One platform, we've been able to continually improve the product for you with a more regular cadence of system and app updates," he added.

The external storage support will now allow Xbox One users to enjoy support for up to two external drives at once. This means gamers can plug in the a 256 GB or a larger USB 3.0 external hard drive, have it formatted and then copy and move their games or apps for increased storage capacity for their Xbox One.

Major Nelson also suggests making use of external hard drive support to physically transport games when playing in a friend's house. Granted, gamers still have to sign in via Xbox Live for digitally purchased content or bring a disc for verification of ownership, but at least they won't have to wait for any re-downloading.

The Xbox One will also get the real names feature, which lets gamers identify their friends with their real names, aside from their gamertags. This is especially useful if they're aiming to fill in the 1,000 friends capacity, as it will become harder to remember who's who with gamertag alone.

Sharing via a subset of friends will also be allowed for the Xbox One June System Update, which is based on feedback from users.

Finally, the SmartGlass app for Xbox One will also be seeing some changes, starting with bringing in the OneGuide experience and the Universal Remote Control to the SmartGlass.

Those who belong to the supported markets can easily view the TV listings via the SmartGlass device and watch channels via their smartphone, tablet or PC. Notifications will also be available in the aforementioned devices for a more integrated and on-the-go experience.

Xbox TV Plans Coming in September

If the Xbox One June System Update is not enough, September also holds a few anticipated features, this time for the Xbox TV.

VG 24/7 reports DICE Europe conference, which will be held in September, will see Phil Harrison, corporate VP for Microsoft, delivering the opening keynote. He will also touch on some points on the interactive entertainment arm of Xbox.

In relation to the Xbox One System Update announcement, Major Nelson has also mentioned the TV and OneGuide of the Xbox One will become available for more Xbox Live members starting June, particularly for Canada, the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany. Those who are in any of those territories can also expect updated settings for the TV and OneGuide, better compatibility with devices and better power management.
