Facebook-owned WhatsApp messaging app has introduced a brand new, useful feature. Many users would have come across the issue of not knowing if the intended WhatsApp recipients read their messages or not. However, now, WhatsApp users can utilise the new "blue tick mark" feature to identify if the message was read. In addition, the same feature will also show the time the message was opened.

As per the new update, the pair of "blue tick (check) marks" right next to the sent message implies the message has been read by the recipient. In case, a message was sent to a WhatsApp group chat or a broadcast message, the sender will see the blue tick marks only when each recipient in the group has read the message, according to Phone Arena.

In order to see if a particular message was delivered or read by a contact, the sender will have to rely on the "Message info" screen pertaining to the individual message. Meaning, every message will have a Message info screen. In order to access the info screen, WhatsApp users have to open a chat window with a contact or a group. And then, the users should long-press the sent message and click the info or the info logo. The info logo is nothing but the letter "i" in smaller case enclosed in a circle. Upon tapping the info, users can see the word "Delivered" right next to the message. Meaning, the message was sent to the intended recipient, however, it was not read. In case, the message was opened, the status will show either "Read" or "Seen."

Meanwhile, the same rule applies to voice messages as well. If the status is "Delivered," it means the media file was sent to the recipient, however, it's not been played yet. When the status changes to "Played," the voice message has been heard.

It is worth noting that, in case, the intended recipient does not have the latest WhatsApp version installed on his or her phone, the sender will not see the two blue check marks, even if the message was read. The other possibility is that when there is an internet connectivity issue in either one of the sides, the blue check marks will not appear. Moreover, this brand new feature is available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry 10 OS platforms.

Also according to NDTV, WhatsApp team has updated the FAQ section with the following questions:

1. How can I tell if someone has read my message?

2. What are those check marks next to my messages?

What do you think of the new feature? Feel free to leave a comment.
