Not too long ago, the temperature of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801 chips were measured by testing with various devices running the racing game Asphalt 8 Airborne. This test was apparently conducted to prove that the Snapdragon 810 chip does not have the infamous overheating problem. However, now, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 815 is here and it is reportedly cooler than the predecessors 810 and 801.

Snapdragon 810 Chip Test

In hindsight, even though the test results turned out to be positive for the Snapdragon 810, the HTC One M9 was reportedly getting overheated when running in a benchmark testing site. The temperature was so high that, the device apparently reached a worrisome 132 degrees. The same test also showcased that, except for the Snapdragon 810 powered One M9, other devices including that of the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 did not heat up as high as the M9. In comparison, the One M8 and the Note 4 apparently scored 102 degrees and 100 degrees, respectively. In any case, HTC has reportedly rolled out a software update/fix to reduce the temperature on the One M9 unit to 104 degrees, notes Phone Arena.

Snapdragon 815 Chip Test

Moving on to the latest test, according to STJS Gadgets, Qualcomm has reportedly run an internal test with the yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 815 SoC and the predecessors Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801. The aforesaid chipsets were reportedly housed in three separate handsets with no cellular radio connectivity. Speaking of key specifications, the handsets used in the test apparently featured a 5-inch display packed with a screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels and backed by a good 3 GB of RAM configuration.

Phone Arena points out that, there were no antennas and radios in the devices that were tested and therefore, when it comes to real world scenario, all three chips could run a little warmer when compared to Qualcomm’s controlled environment. Similar to the earlier test, the graphics-intensive Asphalt 8 Airborne racing game was reportedly used for the test. However, instead of the medium graphics setting, the testers apparently used the high graphics setting.

According to Qualcomm, the upcoming Snapdragon 815 chip was reportedly the coolest at 100.4 degrees. The Snapdragon 815 chip was followed by the Snapdragon 801, clocking a temperature of 107.6 degrees. And as expected, the Snapdragon 810 came last with 111.2 degrees. This test was apparently conducted to prove that, the upcoming phones that house the new Snapdragon 815 chipset should not come with the same overheating problems faced by Snapdragon 810.
