Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "Supernatural" Season 10, episode 9 titled "The Things We Left Behind."

In the latest episode, Castiel (Misha Collins) becomes a father-figure to his vessel Jimmy Novak's daughter, Claire (Kathryn Love Newton), Rowena (Ruth Connell) tries to reunite with her son, Crowley (Mark Sheppard), and Sam (Jared Padalecki) finding out what the Mark of Cain does to his brother.

The mid-season finale episode begins with Dean waking up to his demon nightmare where he is covered in blood, holding a knife and the people around him are dead. At a group home, trouble teenager Claire Novak was put in an isolation room for 48 hours as punishment for shoplifting.

Castiel sees the troubled life that Claire is living after he took her father's body as his vessel. Castiel asked what Claire wants so he can make it up to her and the rebellious teenager told the angel to get her out of the group home.

When the group home supervisor denied their custody application, Castiel decided to break Claire out of the group home that he calls "child prison." At the Men of Letters bunker, Dean spends his free time eating and watching "The Three Stooges" with Sam, who notices the Mark of Cain on his brother's arm.

However, Castiel disturbs the Winchester brothers' break. The angel called Sam and Dean for help in locating Claire after the teenager stole his wallet and took off.

In Crowley's jail cell, Rowena is still chained up and her son, the King of Hell still refuses to talk to her. Gerald chains up a new inmate who got smuggled out of hell. Crowley told his demon follower that Rowena was a horrible mother to him because she almost traded him for three pigs, gave him the name Fergus that sounded like a venereal disease and left him when he was eight years old.

At a diner, Castiel and Dean catch up while waiting for the details on Sam's investigation at Claire's group home. The discussion turned serious when Dean asked Castiel for a favor concerning the effect of the Mark of Cain him.

Dean wants Castiel to take him out if he goes down the dark path again because of the mark. Additionally, Dean warns Castiel that he should not let Sam get in the way because he knows his brother will try.

Castiel, Sam and Dean were able to locate Claire after interrogating Dustin, a boy that Claire knew in the group home. It was revealed that Claire has been living with Dustin and a guy named Randy who has issues with loan sharks.

One evening, Randy tells Claire that he is behind payment and asks the teenager to rob a convenience store so he can pay up. Castiel arrived just in time to take Claire away before the teenager gets in another trouble.

Castiel apologized to Claire for her miserable life but the teenager expressed the anger that she feels towards the angel who destroyed her family before walking away. Sam and Dean tell Castiel what fatherhood is like through experience with their hunter father John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Rowena tries to reunite with her son but Crowley did not want to believe that she came back to be a good mother to him this time so he throws her back in her cell. Then, Rowena reveals that she knows who smuggles demons from Hell.

Crowley asked who and Rowena said it was Gerald. Rowena's inmate also told the King of Hell that what the witch said is true because she made a deal with his follower. Gerald got upset and claimed that they are lying so he strangles Rowena.

Crowley told Gerald to stop but when he did not, the King of Hell killed his follower. Rowena succeeded in earning her son's trust but it turns out she only made a bogus deal with the new inmate.

Meanwhile, Castiel worries that Claire is in trouble so he heads to Randy's house with Sam and Dean. The trio arrived to find out that the loan sharks were there to collect but Randy does not have money to pay them so he sold Claire in order to clear his debt.

Castiel gets Claire out of the house with Sam and comforts the scared teenager in the Imapala. Dean got left behind the house when the loan shark leader hit his head with a bottle. Dean warned the men that things will get messy after feeling the dark effects of the Mark of Cain on him but they still did not let him go.

In the car, Sam heard noises coming from the house and he knew that something is wrong. Sam walks in on Dean holding a knife with the men, including Randy, dead around him.

Sam begs his brother to tell him that he had to kill those people. However, Sam and Castiel are aware that the Mark of Cain is the one responsible for Dean's actions after seeing what he is capable of doing because of the mark on his arm.
