J.J Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens” has created history by making US$ 6.5 million (nearly AU$ 8.9 million) in advanced domestic tickets sales. In addition to that, the film's new trailer was reportedly viewed more than 112 million times online in just 24 hours.

The seventh film in the "Star Wars" franchise has shattered the record held by "The Hunger Games" for first day, advance ticket sales, beatinng it by more than eight times, according to Sky News.

The IMAX sales record for “The Force Awakens” from 390 IMAX is already more than what many films make from over 1,500 screens on their opening night, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“The only words to describe the first day of IMAX worldwide advance ticket sales for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” are record-shattering," Greg Foster, senior executive vice president at IMAX Corp. and CEO at IMAX Entertainment, said to THR. "The fan reaction to the latest trailer and demand for this film in IMAX is unprecedented and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this phenomenon."

Additionally, many sites that were selling the tickets crashed because of the traffic. Fandango and MovieTickets.com were the most affected when tickets went on sale Monday night, Oct. 19.

MovieTickets.com later confirmed that “The Force Awakens” has set a new record for them, with sales three fold compared to their previous best. Fandango and AMC also confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter (THR) that the Monday night sales of “The Force Awakens” surpassed their previous pre-sales records as well.

WA Today reported Thursday that 70 per cent of the tickets were sold out in Perth in just two days.

Meanwhile, the trailer of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer" on Youtube has been viewed more than 45 million times. Star Wars site stated on Oct. 23 that the sneak peek shown during ESPN’s Monday Night Football was seen by a TV audience of over 16 million, and in just 24 hours, the trailer was viewed online more than 112 million times -- that is 128 million times globally in a single day.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens Dec. 18 in the U.S., and in Australia on Dec. 17.
