Dubbed as the “companionator” and gentleman pimp, “Sons of Anarchy” Nero Padilla played by Jimmy Smits joined the FX biker drama series in the show’s fifth season. Now that the show wrapped up its seventh and final season, Nero Padilla has been hailed as one of Yahoo’s “Greatest TV Characters Since Tony Soprano” alongside “Empire’s” Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) and “Suits’” Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman).

“Introduced in Season 5 as a love interest for Gemma and a potential role model for outlaw Jax, the OG Byz Lat-turned-upstanding “companionator” became one of the show’s most layered and respected characters,” according to Yahoo.

Thanks to Smits outstanding portrayal of Nero, that well-loved character in the fictional town of Charming became the voice of reason for the dysfunctional Teller family. Before he was attached to SAMCRO, thanks to Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal), Nero spent his 30’s in Chino Prison and started an escort service called Diosa International after he served his time.

Smits character was first seen with Gemma at his home while the SAMCRO matriarch was under the influence. After a brief incident with Nero, Gemma retuned to Diosa where they were properly introduced which led Gemma to asked him to house Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and his gang while they were running from the law.

“Sons of Anarchy’s” final episode, “Papa’s Goods,” featured Nero as he sadly accepted the fact that Gemma was gone and was killed by her own son. He then promised Jax that we will take of Abel and Thomas together with Wendy in a place far from the life of violence and mayhem.

One of the show’s most heart breaking scenes was when Nero tearfully watches Jax saying his final goodbye with his sons and Wendy after he told Nero that he is leaving and doesn’t know he’s going. He was last seen driving Jax’s boys and Wendy to his uncle’s farm in Norco.

Meanwhile, Yahoo featured the ten stars who are included in their list of ‘99 Greatest TV Characters Since Tony Soprano’. The website is set to reveal ten more names on each weekday on the next two weeks.
