Papal Conclave: The Lighter Side of Electing a New Pope
The secrecy of the way the pope is elected and the not-so secret shenanigans going on in Vatican at about the same time the conclave started on Tuesday are now becoming more intense as more cartoonists make light of the situation.
Secrecy has been linked with the word isolation, which these two cartoons equate with the Catholic Church hierarchy and the manner the pope is elected.
The vacancy caused by the sudden resignation of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI caught the world by surprise
and sparked interest as well in his red shoes.
But it also showed the interest of the cardinals in the vacancy created often by deaths only.
But it seems interest is not limited to the male species, but also among the female species.
Outside the clergy, people are interested in who would become spiritual leader to 1.2 billion Catholics around the world, but some are more interested in the prize money they would get from wagers.
Media, meanwhile, are scrambling to get all angles about the conclave, including digging into all details about the life of the cardinals, clergymen and the Vatican in general.
Of course, the most awaited event is the telltale signs from the chimney of Sistine Chapel.
Anticipating a Cardinal Scola win, caricature makers had prepared one just in case the Italian cardinal would be the next pope. Note his physical resemblance to the Pope Emeritus.
Since black smoke is expected to be seen in the next two days, speculations would go on about what is happening inside the chapel, and while waiting for the white smoke, people would spend the time talking again about the gay ring inside the Holy See and Monday's discovery that one cardinal and several priests have Europe's biggest gay sauna as their neighbor.
