New Pope 2013 Memes: Is Pope Francis Attracting Other Kinds of Winged Creatures Other than the Birds and the Bees?
With the abdication of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on Feb 28, he also left behind to his successor the weight of problems that he had been bearing the past eight years as head of the Roman Catholic Church.
It seems a lot of stumbling blocks are on the pathway of Pope Francis, the former Buenos Aires Archbishop, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, ranging from what to do with the contents of a thick report on Vatican scandals, how to reform the corruption-prone Roman Curia and how to boost the faith of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics around the world who may not agree with the church teachings on birth control, priestly celibacy and marriage.
However, being a man of strong faith, Pope Francis could count on the guidance of his namesake, Saint Francis of Assisi who is known for being a man of peace that even animals and winged creatures were attracted to the founder of the Franciscan order.
Modern-day Pope Francis, though, appears to attract other kinds of avians that may not be so friendly to Catholic teachings.
Including black-robed clergymen in Roman collars who have been a cause of shame for the Catholic Church.
And even unsolicited advice from well-meaning celebrities.
Among the weapons he could use to address all these thorny issues, besides prayers, is the use of technology to explain how his reign as pope would be.
A man of lesser faith may buckle under the weight of these many potential headaches he has to address, but like the Biblical character David, he could slay the behemoth problems he inherited from Benedict XVI.
Cardinal Claudio Hummes, his old friend and a Brazilian church official, believes that Pope Francis should place high priority on reforming the Curia, beginning with choosing the right people to run a missionary church.
In relation to the bureaucracy reforms, Vatican announced on Monday that senior administrators are holding their current posts on a temporary basis as he studies, prays and holds dialogues before making permanent appointments to positions in the Roman Curia.
With so much on his plate, it is not a surprise that his first tweet using the @Pontifex handle was this.
