Elizabeth Banks said, "I was like, 'I'm way too old to be doing this!' but I thought, I don't want my kids thinking their mother wouldn't get out on a tube. Well, I nearly died. I did a full cartwheel in the air as I went into the water. But it was totally fun and worth it." REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni

Two of the most-compared and most-loved young adult dystopian movies these days, "The Hunger Games" and "Divergent," are now facing off in the first ever mtvU Fandom Awards.

Winning over "Captain America," the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel "The Hunger Games," starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, came past first round and has now moved on to the second round to compete with another YA dystopian movie, "Divergent."

The movie adaptation of Veronica Roth's YA novel, "Divergent," starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, has beaten "The Hobbit" and is now face to face with "The Hunger Games" for a chance to move on to the third round and maybe snag the Fandom of the Year award.

According to MTV, the mtvU Fandom Awards is created to honour diehard fans and their favourite movies and shows.

"Fandom is loyalty," MTV wrote. "It's pure untamed passion that brings fans together for the common cause."

Two other movies who have gotten past round one and are now facing off, based on the mtvU Fandom Awards page, are "The Fault in Our Stars," starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, and "Veronica Mars," starring Kristen Bell.

From 32 competitors, the movies and shows that are competing for Fandom of the Year is now down to 16, eliminating "Captain America," "The Hobbit," "Pacific Rim" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in the movie category. Favourite TV dramas "The Vampire Diaries," "Breaking Bad," "Game of Thrones" and "Pretty Little Liars" weren't able to get past first round as well.
