The Kansas City Royals have acquired catcher Drew Butera in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels for minor league infielder Ryan Jackson. The team’s official Twitter account confirmed the Royals-Angeles trade last Thursday.

With Los Angeles, the 31 year old Butera hit 4-for-21 (.190) in 10 games this 2015 season. With his previous team, the L.A. Dodgers, he batted .188. Butera also played for the Minnesota Twins from 2010 to 2013. For the Angels, they will acquire Jackson, who was purchased by the Royals from the Dodgers in November 2014.

Jackson was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2009 amateur draft and signed the same year. He played for the Cardinals’ minor league team in 2012 and 2013 playing a total of 15 games at second base, third base and short stop. He also appeared in 20 big league games with the team in those years. The Royals made room for Butera in the 40-man roster by putting left-handed Tim Collins to the 60-day disabled list.

Butera made his debut for the Royals last Saturday in a 6-2 win against the Detroit Tigers. He recorded 1 RBI in 3 at-bats. His lon RBI ground out gave the Royals a 5-1 lead in the third inning as Kansas City held on to the win.
