Daniel Craig has had surgery after suffering a knee injury on the set of the new James Bond movie, "Spectre." The surgery took place as the cast and crew took a break from filming the 24th installment of the series over Easter. Craig rejoins filming mid-April.

Eon Productions confirmed the news, referring to the operation as a “minor procedure,” reports The Hollywood Reporter. The British actor will take a break from filming "Spectre" due to the injury.

"During a scheduled break, Daniel Craig had arthroscopic surgery to repair his knee injury," a spokesperson for Eon Productions told BBC News. She also added that Craig will be back on Apr. 22 at Pinewood Studios.

The 47-year-old actor sprained his knee while shooting at London’s Pinewood Studios in early February. This prompted Roger Moore, a former Bond, to say on Twitter that he could "step in." (See the tweet below.)

This is just the latest setback to befall the latest Bond production. In December, a draft of the film’s script was leaked in the Sony Pictures hack. In October, nine Range Rovers set to be used in the film were stolen in Neuss, Germany.

"Spectre" will be Craig's fourth outing as 007. The previous movie "Skyfall" was the most successful Bond movie ever, making $1.1 billion worldwide.

The new Bond movie features Christoph Waltz playing a character called Oberhauser - which, in the novels, is the name of Bond's former skiing instructor. However, many in social media believe the actor will be revealed as Bond's old nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Blofeld was the number one in Spectre, an international crime syndicate, which was last featured in the Sean Connery-era films. The organization also counted two of Bond's greatest enemies - the metal-handed scientist Dr Julius No and the eye patch-wearing Emilio Largo amongst its ranks.

Daniel Craig and Christoph Waltz will be joined by Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux with Sam Mendes helming the movie once again. The movie is set to be released on Nov. 6 this year.
