AC/DC’s hit single, “Highway to Hell” has made it to top 4 on the music chart as fans spearheaded a campaign on Facebook aimed at putting the band on the UK Christmas chart.

According to antimusic.com, a Facebook campaign has called on fans to download the Australian group’s hit single, “Highway to Hell” which first reached its popularity in 1979. The campaign had asked the fans to download the song from Dec. 15 to 21 in the hopes to get AC/DC on top of the UK chart on Christmas week.

Citing a report by The Courier, antimusic.com noted the statement made by the group’s spokesman that the move was part of the band’s 40th year anniversary celebration.

"AC/DC are celebrating their 40th anniversary as we speak. They formed in late 1973 and we are a few fans who thought it would be cool to see them at the top of the Christmas tree to celebrate their milestone,” said anti-music, citing the statement made by the AC/DC spokesman in The Courier report.

The move however, failed to get AC/DC to the top UK chart but “Highway To Hell,” was only short three notches away from the top of the music chart. Anti-music.com reiterated that the campaign has given AC/DC its “first-ever top ten single.”

"AC/DC have scored their first ever UK top ten single with Highway To Hell. Despite having several top ten albums here, including three number ones, the veteran rockers' previous best was number 12 in 1988 with Heatseeker,”said anti-music citing the Official Charts Company in a separate report.

The campaign to get AC/DC to the top UK Christmas chart had made the buzz with 170,000 Facebook users who liked the campaign page. Landing on Top 4, the Australian giants was outranked by “X Factor UK” winner, Sam Bailey and two others.

HenneMusic.com said that “Highway to Hell,” as the title of the band’s album in 1979.
