Cat Stevens Australian tour 2017: Three new shows added, tickets go on sale May 16

An overwhelming demand for Cat Stevens led to the promoter to announce three new shows for Australia. Tickets for the newly added shows go on sale on May 16, Tuesday at 10 a.m. local time. The British singer will play extra dates at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena, the ICC Sydney Theatre and Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre.

Stevens, whose name is Yusuf Islam, announced his fourth Australian tour in March, tickets for which were sold instantly, leaving many fans disappointed. The tour commemorates the 50th Anniversary of his first major hit single and debut album “Matthew & Son” released in 1967. Stevens has been popular with the Australian audience. His album “Catch Bull At Four” spent fifteen weeks on Australian music charts in 1972.

In 1977, Stevens converted to Islam and retired from music for almost thirty years after releasing his 1978 album under his name Cat Stevens. He re-entered the music scene in 2006 with “An Other Cup,” his first of three albums under the name Yusuf Islam. Once, he told Rolling Stone in a 2015 interview that ISIS and Islam are different. “The positive side is that it has brought together these factional voices to say in unison that [ISIS] has nothing to do with Islam,” he said, speaking about the current situation of Islam being linked to terrorism.
