X Factor Australia” 2016 kicked into overdrive on Sunday for the second live episode, revealing the top eight’s makeovers.

With their brand new looks, this year’s finalists took on songs from the music industry’s legends. Judges Adam Lambert, Guy Sebastian, Iggy Azalea and Mel B worked doubly hard this week, supervising the makeovers and working on their team’s performances. Perhaps fuelled by their new superstar appearances, the acts seemed to give their all that night.

Chynna Taylor, who’s part of Guy’s Over 22s category, owned the stage with her rendition of the classic rock song “Pride [In The Name Of Love]” by U2. Her powerful vocals resonated and did the song justice, earning a standing ovation from all the judges. Adam loved the song and commented, “You nailed it,” while Mel B said it’s a “wowzer.” Iggy revealed that she’s nervous about Chynna. Chynna’s coach Guy said that she’s more than just a ballad singer, and that he could see her as a vocalist on DJ and EDM tracks.

The battle of the girl bands heated up on Sunday, and both Aya and Beatz made quite an impression with their respective performances. While Iggy didn’t change Aya’s looks too much, the Australian rapper threw in a surprise with her song of choice. To prove that the female trio could do an upbeat song, Aya sang “End of Time” by Beyonce. Iggy and Adam stood up for them, and he commented that they looked like superstars. Beatz, on the other hand, performed “If You Love Me” by Brown Stone. They appeared to have the most drastic makeover, and even mashed up the song with “Whip My Hair.” Their mentor Mel and Adam stood up. Guy said they are his favourite girl group ever on the show.

Another act who caught everyone in surprise with her new look is Amalia, who sang Madonna’s “Frozen.” As the youngest singer in the competition, Amalia wasn’t too familiar with the Queen of Pop and even thought that Adam gave her “Let It Go” from Disney’s “Frozen.” Still, she gave a mesmerising rendition of the hit song, which Adam said could “melt Australian’s hearts.” Other acts which gave great performances according to the judges were Vlado, who sang “Into You” by Ariana Grande and Isaiah Firebrace , who performed “Let It Be” by The Beatles.

On the flip side, Davey Woder and Brentwood may be in danger of elimination on Monday. Davey, who sang “Small Bump” by Ed Sheeran, sounded a bit off perhaps because he’s thinking about his son, who was rushed to the hospital this week. Brentwood, on the other hand, performed “Latch” by Sam Smith and Disclosure. Iggy may have made a mistake with her choice of song for the brother-and-sister duo, but she said she’s happy with the way it turned out.
