The time jump in “The Walking Dead” season 9 means that there will be a lot of changes on the show. The bullets are running out, and there isn’t enough gas to use vehicles as well. The heroes will have to adapt to this situation by using different modes of transport and weapons.

Daryl (Norman Reedus) will start to play an even more significant role on the show, with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) exiting in season 9. According to a report by ComicBook.com, Daryl will be getting two new melee weapons to fight zombies, along with his trademark Crossbow.

“Since our characters are being more stingy with their bullets this year, we wanted to make sure Daryl had a good secondary weapon for hand-to-hand fighting (a crossbow is difficult to reload, so it’s not good for quick combat)," the new showrunner Angela Kang said.

Reedus reportedly helped custom design a pair of knives, which he will use for two-handed combat. The weapons are saw-backed Bowie knifes with finger rings. The knifes can be used in either direction in a fight, and Daryl can twirl them in different directions.

With fewer bullets available, it looks like there will be a lot more hand-to-hand combat in the next season. Daryl’s action sequences should be particularly exciting to watch with his new knifes.

The plot will focus on the appeal to Fascism in times of chaos. There will apparently be some graffiti at the Sanctuary that reads “Saviors save us” and “We are still Negan.” The writers apparently took inspiration from how societies have reacted in the past to war, pestilence and natural disasters.

Meanwhile, another report by ComicBook.com explains how the show plans to cherish the memory of Carl (Chandler Riggs). Michonne (Danai Gurira) will reportedly have a piece of Carl’s shirt wrapped around her hair, as a way of remembering him.
