Many of the mobile users would have to wait to upgrade to the new iPhone 6 models as they are tied up with carrier contract. Verizon the leading mobile carrier has solved this problem by opening its window for its customers to upgrade. Those customers whose contract ends before November 15, 2014 can now get upgrades to iPhone as well as other mobiles. This move is to give opportunity to more customers to pre-order the iPhone 6 as well as the iPhone 6 Plus.

The Verizon promotion reads:

"As a special thank you to our existing customers, all Verizon customers who would be eligible to upgrade on or before November 15 have their upgrade dates changed to become upgrade eligible immediately. These customers can now upgrade to any device currently in our lineup, with new two years contract. Customers should check My Verizon to confirm upgrade eligibility."

To take advantage of this opportunity, customers need to commit to a contract of two years and choose any smartphone that Verizon is currently offering. The user has to pay $30 as a fee to upgrade and activate their new smartphone.

However, there seems to be a catch in this as Verizon wants customers to upgrade to a new iPhone 6 model without having to deliver the phone by September 9 that is the stipulated date of release. By the end of the week, only three models of the iPhone 6; Gold 64 GB, 128 GB and Silver 128 GB will be available to the users. Mid or late October will see the delivery of the other models of the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 Plus will be delivered in early November due to stocks being sold out.

This promotion come in the wake of other carriers who are wooing customers by offering to pay early termination fees so that customers will switch to new carriers. Verizon was facing a lot of competition and have come up with this offer to counter their rivals in the market. This offer by Verizon will not be beneficial to Apple users who have upgraded to the iPhone 5S last year, but it would definitely help users who have upgraded to the iPhone 5 during 2012 due to its demand being very high.

None of the carriers like AT&T or Sprints could come up with an offer that is as enticing as Verizon to encourage pre-orders of the iPhone 6. This could be because both these companies are facing problems with the supply of both the models of the iPhone 6. The AT&T sites have back ordered the 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus Space Gray to mid or late November and the Sprint's have back ordered for four to six weeks.
