Update: Disney Pixar has released a more revealing trailer on Wednesday. In the teaser clip, Dory gets to be reunited with her old friend Destiny, who, like Dory, curiously speaks whale as well.

“Finding Dory” isn’t profit-driven, that’s what director Andrew Stanton made clear. The Disney Pixar film was 13 years in the making, following the 2003 hit “Finding Nemo,” and will follow the titular character’s (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) quest to be reunited with her forgotten family. And, as the director revealed, the always upbeat blue tang is actually a tragic character.

The film studio recently released another teaser for the highly anticipated animated film. In the 30-second trailer, the forgetful Dory is once again clueless, mistaking the film’s title for a game. It gives away nothing new, but thankfully, Stanton has revealed more details about the film.

“Disney doesn’t require those things,” he told Yahoo Movies of the series of upcoming film sequels for Pixar. He told the site that the “Finding Nemo” sequel is not a “profit-driven cash-in.” He believes in the mantra that something is not worth doing unless it’s good.

DeGeneres has been teasing her eponymous daytime talk show fans with news of the sequel for years, and it was only in 2013 when Disney officially announced it.

According to Stanton, it was in 2012 when he and writer Victoria Strouse really focused on doing the draft. It took several revisions and a couple of years before they believed they had strong materials to make the film. DeGeneres is, of course, returning as the voice of Dory. Also returning from the first film are Albert Books (who voices Marlin), Willem Dafoe (Gill), Vickie Lewis (Deb) and Bob Peterson (Mr Ray).

Nemo is now voiced by Hayden Rolence. Alexander Gould, who voiced the character in the first film, is now 21 years and has an adult voice. He will have a cameo role, though, which viewers might not recognise because “he sounds like a man.”

“But I just felt like I really wanted the Nemo family in the film,” Stanton explained. The sequel is set six months after the first one, hence the need for another child voice actor.

There are new characters in the film as well. Dory’s friend Destiny, a whale shark, is voiced by “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Kaitlin Olson. “Modern Family” stars Ty Burrell and Ed O’Neill, as well as Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy have also lent their voices for new characters.

“Finding Dory” will be released in Australia on June 16, and in the US on June 17.
