Former President Donald Trump was fuming on Wednesday morning over a sense of deja vu as one of his preferred candidates for the United States Senate remains locked in a tight primary. The reason? A need to finish counting mail-in ballots.

Taking to his social network Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump vented about Pennsylvania’s failure to complete its vote-counting in the Republican Party primary as mail-in vote counts remain uncompleted. In a post, Trump accused the entire process of being “rigged” against his endorsed candidate, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and compared it to the 2020 election that he lost.

“Here we go again! In Pennsylvania, they are unable to count the Mail-In Ballots,” Trump wrote. “Our Country should go to paper ballots with same day voting. Just done in France, zero problems. Get Smart America!!!”

Oz, who Trump endorsed to the chagrin of even some of his supporters, currently leads the count over Bridgewater Associates CEO David McCormick, the preferred candidate of the Republican establishment. But Oz’s advantage is only by a hair, separated by only about 3,000 votes and with 96% of Pennsylvania’s precincts reporting their results, there remains room for that lead to evaporate.

McCormick, a billionaire former official in the Bush administration as well as a veteran of the United States Army, has drawn Trump’s ire for his refusal to embrace his false claims about the 2020 presidential election that he lost to now-President Joe Biden.

At a rally on May 6, Trump laid into McCormick as a “globalist” ally of Wall Street, China and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. In the weeks leading up to primary night, the former president blitzed across the Keystone State, delivering speeches and rallies to support Oz.

Oz has not been an easy embrace for many within Trump’s orbit nor with his base. His position as the MAGA standard-bearer has also been undermined by the late surge of conservative firebrand Kathy Barnette, who declared herself the true adherent and deliverer of Trump’s America First agenda.

On the Democratic side, Lt. Governor John Fetterman, progressive small-town mayor, secured a commanding victory on Tuesday night. By the end of the evening, Fetterman won 49% of the primary vote which left his more moderate rivals in the dust.
