The Swatch group is famous for their brands of watches like Tissot, Mido, Longines, Omega and hand-decorated Breguet timepieces.

Many big companies are vying to collaborate with Swatch in manufacturing certain parts, but Chief Executive Nick Hayek said that they could do many things by themselves.

He also went on to add some of the features of the new line of Smartwatches. According to him the wearer will be able to count the number of steps they take when exercising to burn calories. It will offer the latest Bluetooth technology that will enable many cool features that he referred to as "Swatchy" things.

The latest Smartwatches in the market launched by Samsung and Sony was doing good in the market, but Swatch said that the potential market for the Smartwatch is large.

Smartwatches pose a threat to the traditional watch with their capability to check mails, make calls and monitor health. This has led to Swatch being hit by the market losing out on their earnings.

Many analysts believe that collaboration between Apple and Swatch would make a wonderful team in bringing out a smartwatch. But the company argues that they sell watches not technology.

The first message to the customer is the watch then comes the added benefit like the technology. According to Hayek technology by itself does not sell especially in watches.

Fashion and brand name are important for smartwatches to sell. "Nobody has hit on the right combination of problems a wearable should solve and convinced mainstream consumers", Avi Greengart, research director at IT research firm Current Analysis, said.

Right now the Smartwatch market is dull. If any company would bring out a watch that appeals to the customers that would boost the Smartwatch sales in the market.

They also supply microchips, display and batteries, for third-party companies including mobile phones and smartwatch makers.

EM Marin is an arm of Swatch manufactures batteries for others. They are also the makers of low voltage microchips. Michel Willemin, head of EM Marin, said that low power and low voltage microchip are their specialty. The Swatch Touch would be the only battery powered device to have a touch screen and it would be always active because of its low power consumption.

Garmin's Vivofit buy components and Renata long life batteries for their fitness brands that monitor distances walked and calories burned.

According to Hayek fitness bands sell in the U.S. like crazy people buy them, wear it and take it off after a few weeks.

With brand name, fashion trend and the technology put together could make a Smartwatch work for the customers, but it would be best to wait and watch what Swatch would deliver to the customers in 2015.
