Netherrealm’s steady rollout of characters for “Mortal Kombat X” continues with an intensely brutal story trailer that shows Sonya Blade, her ex-husband Johnny Cage and their daughter Cassie Cage in action. The new additions bring the number of confirmed playable characters in “MKX” to 20.

The Cage Family Trailer, posted on the “Mortal Kombat” Community YouTube page, shows off snippets of story mode from “MKX,” highlighting the new relationship between Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and newcomer Cassie. It also shows off the trio's diverse and incredibly hardcore combat moves and vicious finishers.

As reported by IGN, which got to sample the first chapter of the “MKX” story mode at GDC 2015, both Johnny and Sonya return with the majority of their classic moveset intact. Among other moves, players will be able to pull off signature Johnny Cage attacks like his shadow kick, shadow uppercut, crotch punch and more.

IGN also notes that a number of other playable characters featured in the story section it was privy to were either combatants or participants in the cinematics. Sonya’s partner Jax and fallen Elder God Shinnok made an appearance as fighters. Meanwhile, Smoke, Nightwolf, Fujin, Striker and Kabal were all seen at various points during the game’s cinematics. The blind ninja, Kenshi, can also be glimpsed in a sequence from the newly released Cage Family trailer. As previously reported, Kenshi’s son, Takashi Takeda, features as a playable character trained by none other than Scorpion.

“Mortal Kombat X” is the first game in the series to give players the option to select from three different combatant variations, allowing them to adapt their fighting style strategically in combat. Netherrealm holds regular live streams, revealing new characters and detailing their movesets, which means players can look forward to more official reveals before the game’s release. “Mortal Kombat X” will be available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Android and iOS on April 14.
