Prince George looked so adorable during his sister, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana’s christening on July 5. The little royal managed to grab the spotlight because of the outfit he wore to the service.

In this photo shared by Hello Magazine, Prince George is seen arriving at St. Mary Magdalene church walking side by side with his mother, Kate Middleton, as he holds hands with his father, Prince William. The publication reports that the royal toddler had “hearts melting around the world as he arrived wearing a white smocked shirt with red embroidered detailing and red shorts.”

Prince George looked like the spitting image of his father in his two-piece smocked set. Royal watchers were quick to note the similarities between Prince George’s outfit to that worn by Prince William when he was a toddler. In this photo shared by the publication, the Duke of Cambridge also wore red shorts and a red embroidered shirt back in 1984 when he first met then baby Prince Harry.

However, there are some slight alterations to Prince George’s outfit compared to that worn by Prince William. The Rachel Riley-designed ensemble the little royal wore to Charlotte’s christening has white buttons on the shorts while William’s shorts had none. Then there’s also the obvious change in embroidery pattern on Prince George’s shirt.

Prince George also looked like the spitting image of Prince William during Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday parade. BBC cited a Kensington palace source who confirmed that the romper the little royal wore at Trooping the Colour is the exact outfit the Duke of Cambridge wore to the 1984 event.

According to Now Magazine, Kate Middleton had taken some inspiration on how to dress her children from the late Princess Diana. Dressing up Prince George with his father’s romper at Trooping the Colour is said to be a “subtle and touching tribute” to his deceased grandmother. The publication further claimed that perhaps the Duchess of Cambridge may have “been taking inspiration from pictures of Princess Diana with Prince William and Harry when they were babies.”

Choosing St. Mary Magdalene Church for Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana’s christening is believed to be another tribute to the late princess. Hello Magazine noted that the church is also where Diana, born Lady Diana Spencer, was baptised in Aug. 30, 1961.
