One of the best things about owning multiple PlayStation consoles and having a subscription to PlayStation Plus, is looking forward to the varied assortment of free games on offer every month. Sony has finally taken the wraps off its plans for May, and fans of beat-’em-ups, thoughtful adventure and quirky puzzlers are in for a treat.

Details of this week’s lineup of PlayStation Plus games come courtesy of the PlayStation Blog, which lists six titles, five of which also appear on PlayStation 4. Highlights include “Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition,” a PS4 port of the fluid and fun 2D sidescrolling brawler platformer from developer Drinkbox Studios. There’s also the storybook inspired experimental adventure game “The Unfinished Swan,” which is available on PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, and sees gamers go on a grand adventure across multiple breathtaking levels with diverse gameplay types.

Even more eccentric is “Hohokum,” a gorgeous 2D puzzle game with mellow music and chill visuals. Eurogamer awarded “Hohokum” a 9 out of 10 in their review, praising the game’s beautiful art style and never ending fount of new ideas. Vita owners can get their hands on “Murasaki Baby,” an odd puzzle game with a distinctive visual style and an eerie atmosphere. The full list of free PlayStation Plus games for May includes:

The glut of free games hits just as Sony announced a mammoth Golden Week sale advertised on the PlayStation Blog. The sale discounts over 100 Japanese and Japanese-inspired games, including action classics like the “Metal Gear Solid HD Collection,” “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes,” “Zone of the Enders HD Colletion” and more. There are also quirky smaller titles to be had, such as Atlus’ “Catherine,” XSeed’s “Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed” and more.

Folks looking for western made titles inspired by Japanese games also have a small selection of titles to choose from, with hits like “Bionic Commando: Rearmed” and “Remember Me” heavily discounted. All PSN owners get up 66 percent off the titles, while PlayStation Plus subscribers get an even better deal, with up to 75 percent off on the games listed.
