Two rounds of voting in the Wednesday morning session of the second day of the conclave still failed to produce a new pope. The chimney followers at Vatican Square were informed of this developed with the release anew of black smoke from the Sistine Chapel's chimney.

This means that the 115 cardinal electors would have two more rounds of voting in the afternoon after their lunch break, and if the two rounds are still inconclusive, black smoke would once more emit from the famous chimney and the electors would be brought back to their accommodation with no contact with the outside world to prevent any influence.

Their quarters do not have any newspaper, radio, television or Internet access and the use of mobile phones and computers have been disallowed until the successor of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI is elected.

There is no way to know who were the nominees in the Tuesday and Wednesday votes and which candidate had the most votes, which apparently did not reach the mandatory two-thirds of 77 votes.

In Ireland, latest report said that Ghanaian Cardinal Peter Turkson had overtaken Italian Archbishop Angelo Scola in wagers at Paddy Power. The bets placed the odds of 2-1 in favour of the black cardinal, while Archbishop Scola's chances were reduced to 10-3.

If the wagers alone were the basis, the possibility looms that the 1.2-billion strong Roman Catholic Church may have its first black pope which could be cited by doomsday prophets as a fulfillment of the prophecy of Saint Malachi.
