Starz has released a behind the scenes video that takes the fans inside “Outlander” Season 2 episode 9. The producers of the TV series are featured in the video, explaining their thought process for some of the scenes and events in the episode.

[Spoiler alert]

In a video posted on Starz, Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore revealed that he and the writers talked about showing the prelude to war, where Jaime (Sam Heughan) takes command of his men. The Scotsmen have not seen how a well trained British army can be devastating in the field of battle. Jaime on the other hand has been a soldier in France and knows about this kind of war.

Moore pointed out how Jamie talks about the tactics involved in 18th century warfare with his men in one of the scenes. Producer/writer Matthew B. Roberts explained that the Highlanders are used to making small raids, which involve them going in and getting out pretty quickly. They mostly carry pitchforks and battle axes while training.

Jamie met with his uncle Dougal (Graham McTavish) after a long time in episode 9 of “Outlander” Season 2. Roberts said that for Dougal the only thing that mattered was getting a seat at the table and getting his voice heard. Dougal believes that he is ready for a war with the British, but Jamie will have to train him too.

Although the Frasers are preparing for a war, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is not comfortable with it. She is haunted by the traumatic events from her past.

Roberts said that episode 9 revealed how Claire had not dealt with her past and had managed to suppress her feelings for many years. He pointed out that even after years, a single event can act as a trigger to make a person remember the past events and this is what happens to Claire in “Outlander” Season 2.
