One Direction is still on hiatus, and it looks like Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan are taking advantage of this time and working on their solo endeavours. Liam in particular has widened his musical repertoire to make room for a collaboration with hip hop group Migos.

In a recent interview with Tim Westwood, which can be watched below, the Atlanta, Georgia-based group announced that they have been working on music with Liam. “I just came from a video [shoot] today [with] my boy Liam from One Direction,” Quavo said. “We just shot that. Crazy vid. Crazy visuals. Crazy team. Cool guy, nice guy. It’s going up. I wasn’t even supposed to say that. It’s gonna be a surprise though.”

Before that unintentional reveal, Migos discussed jewellery, the concept of “boujee” and Offset’s rumoured romance with Cardi B. The Atlanta rappers also touched on another collection that will include label-mate Lil Yachty. “This summer going crazy,” Quavo teased.

It is unclear at this point whether or not all members of Migos put in time for the song and video with Liam, or if was just Quavo on set. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old musician has clearly taken this direction seriously by collaborating with the group. Migos has recently appeared on songs from music’s biggest names, including Sean Paul (“Body”), Katy Perry (“Bon Appetit”) and DJ Khaled (“I’m The One”).

The song’s title, theme and beat were also not discussed, but Quavo’s comment about a surprise cannot simply be overlooked. As a whole, Liam, Louis, Harry and Niall tended to work on more pop songs and tackling on hip hop is likely to have been no easy feat. But working with Migos might have made that jump easier.

Other than Liam, the other members of One Direction have also been wisely using the time away from the band. Nial received great reviews for his debut single “This Town,” while Louis collaborated with Steve Aoki on “Just Hold On.” The 25-year-old father-of-one even performed the track with the famed DJ at the Ultra Music Festival in March. Harry, on the other hand, has finished his time on the set of “Dunkirk,” which is scheduled for release later this year. The 23-year-old is also working on his own solo album.
