Nokia Has Windows 8 Tablet for 2012
Recent reports reveal that Nokia, the leading mobile provider plans to launch the Nokia Windows 8 by June next air year.
The information about Nokia's Windows 8 tablet was opened up during an interview with Nokia's company head in France. Based on the interview done by the French newspaper Les Échos with Paul Amsellem, the head of Nokia France, the company plans to release a tablet running on Windows 8 by June of 2012. This interview answers seems to verify the comments given by Nokia CEO Stephen Eleo in BusinessWeek regarding the company's plans regarding their tablet devices. He was quoted stating "There's a new tablet opportunity coming. We see the opportunity. Unquestionably, that will change the dynamics of the tablet market."
This is not the first time Nokia had attempted to penetrate the tablet market. Nokia already had launched several tablet devices which includes its Linux-on-ARM 770, N800, and N810 tablets. These devices were Nokia's earlier attempts to create an Internet tablet that would challenge Apple's tablet products. Nokia is now utilizing a new strategy as it partners up with Microsoft. This new partnership represents a "new opportunity" for Nokia through utilizing Windows 8 in their tablet devices. The interview with Ansellem also revealed that the company is also preparing another high-end Windows Phone 7 device which would be a follow-up of its Nokia Lumia 800. The Nokia Lumia 800 is the first device that was produced by the partnership deal with Nokia and Microsoft.
Some experts are not surprised about Nokia's decision to launch a new tablet device. The surprising part here is the timing of Windows 8 as it would be the OS used in the Nokia Tablet. The Windows 8 is considered as a "major update" to the Windows platform and the program is not yet on its beta stage. The release data target of June 2012 seems unlikely as it would still undergo release to manufacturing (RTM) period of 1-3 months.
Presently, Nokia has not released any official statement confirming the information revealed by Amsellem. Instead, the company chose to be vague about the subject stating that "we (Nokia) have not announced any specific plans as it relates to tablets"
