NewSat, the most advanced satellite company in Australia is looking at Adelaide to be its next site for expansion. South Australia will be the next target to fulfill the next step of the company's vision of the future. One of them is to put Mawson Lakes' engineers in its various satellites.

The Adelaide expansion is estimated to be worth almost $4 million. NewSat plans to create 50 jobs in the high-tech industry since it has purchased the land near its current facilities at Mawson Lakes.

NewSat is expected to launch the Jabiru 1 satellite currently being constructed by Lockheed Martin. The satellite will be the main communications provider for American surveillance services and military drones. NewSat gained funding abroad including a prominent agency of the US government.

South Australia will benefit from the expansion since the company will need experts in the field of space science, astro-physics, nuclear engineering and physics. The new site in Mawson Lakes will be tasked to provide infrastructure for ground support for the Jabiru 1 satellite. It will also manage and monitor the large antennas on the said site.

The Adelaide investment will also finance the needed upgrades and improvements to generators, security equipment and power systems. According to CEO and founder of NewSat, Adrian Balintine, the expansion in South Australia is a turning point for the company's growth and vision of launching a satellite fleet.

The cost of building the Jabiru 1 satellite is estimated to be at US$650 million. With a life span of 15 years, the satellite is expected to provide US$3 billion worth of income. Once the Jabiru 1 satellite will be launched in space, it will become the largest satellite in the world.

Risks of the satellite project have already been anticipated including the possibility of a satellite explosion at launch time. The company wants to avoid a disaster by hiring only the best satellite builders. Arianespace, the first commercial space transportation in the world, is the designated satellite launcher.

NewSat is determined to get more funding to create 4 additional satellites by 2017. Balintine plans to build Jabiru 2 to cover the communication needs of Australia, South China sea will get Jaiburu 3, Jaibiru 4 will cover Africa and finally Jaibiru 5 over South America. The company is expected to become more aggressive in pushing its space program with the help of the current expansion.
