As “NCIS” gears up for season 14, CBS has given an exciting glimpse of what’s in store for fans of the hit cop television series.

Based on the network’s teaser, the first episode puts a spotlight on newbies Wilmer Valderrama (Nicholas "Nick" Torres) and Jennifer Esposito (Alexandra "Alex" Quinn), who play “NCIS” special agents. The two join “NCIS” cast members Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Eleanor Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll), Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) and Dr Donald Mallard (David McCallum).

CBS reports that on the first episode of the show’s 14th season, the “NCIS” team delves into a deadly car explosion in D.C. What makes this particular investigation special is that it is linked to a one of their members, who disappeared six months ago. It appears that Special Agent Torres went missing while in the middle of a deep undercover assignment in Argentina.

Meanwhile, Gibbs assigns Special Agent Quinn to shadow his team after rejecting eight agents she instructed and referred for the open agent position. In addition to Valderrama and Esposito, “NCIS” is beefing up its cast with the addition of British actor Duane Henry, who plays the role of MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves. Last month, the network confirmed that it’s officially promoting Henry as a series regular.

Esposito and Valderrama’s inclusion in the “NCIS” cast were also announced in July this year. Esposito, who’s formerly part of another CBS cop drama “Blue Bloods,” was made part of “NCIS” to somehow compensate for the loss of one of the show’s big stars, Michael Weatherly. Earlier in May, Weatherly appeared as Agent Anthony DiNozzo for the last time in the “NCIS” episode titled “Family First.”

Weatherly, who has become a fan favourite after being part of the highly rated TV show, left a pretty big void, which CBS hopes to fill with Esposito. “That 70s Show” actor Valderrama, on the other hand, seeks to add excitement on the cast with his character described as an “unpredictable, charismatic loose cannon.” [READ: “'NCIS’ Season 14 Spoilers: Wilmer Valderrama says new cast is ‘challenging the genre’”]
