The Worlds of 'Minecraft' PS4 and Xbox One: Truly Next-gen?

August marks the expansion of "Minecraft" from the original PC, the then-exclusive Xbox 360 Edition and the recent PS3 edition to the next-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One and the handheld device PS Vita.

And while Mojang and 4J Studios have already revealed expected features for the upcoming editions, The Guardian has managed to get some more information from the developers, particularly regarding their plans on the "Minecraft" worlds on these platforms.

According to the source, the official statement is "Minecraft" Xbox One and PS4 will be 36 times bigger than their current-gen counterparts, but the developers are not averse to the idea of exploring if it's possible to expand it even more. Not only this—since "Minecraft" will not be coming to more platforms—but also the cohesiveness of the game and the add-on content are also being addressed.

"We've been trying to build a common code base across all the platforms so that when we do an update to the game, all the platforms get it," said Paddy Burns of 4J Studios to The Guardian. "We've had to change all the architecture of the code to deal with that. The PlayStation 3 version was the first one to take advantage of it," Burns added.

As far as the PS Vita version of "Minecraft" is concerned, those who will be playing the game on that device need not fret about lack of exclusive features. 4J Studios has hinted it is looking for a possible additional feature that would be solely on the PS Vita. And in the interview, the feature highlighted in the device is the touchscreen.
