"Half-Life 3" has become a cult of its own, so much so that even though the game has not yet been officially announced by developer Valve, the fan base has been following every rumour and potential leak.

But following here also means that it has become a sort of running gag-from memes of supposed sightings to opinion blogs, everyone seems to have something to say about the lack of a sequel and the anticipation of one.

Now, new evidence has pointed to the creation of "Half-Life 3," with statements coming from former Valve developer Minh Le, who's also the creator of "Counter Strike." According to PC Gamer, Minh has seen concept artworks of "Half-Life 3" before he left Valve.

"I don't know if I can talk about that, to be honest," says Minh of the new Half-Life, "but I think it's kind of public knowledge that people know that it is being worked on. And so if I were to say that yeah, I've seen some images, like some concept art of it, that wouldn't be big news, to be honest," said Minh, as quoted by PC Gamer.

"But yeah, I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe. It wouldn't surprise anyone if I said they're doing it, they're working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I'd say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3."

However, there are a lot of holes here, starting with the fact that Minh had left Valve years ago, and that there is even speculation that the concept art could very well be from "Half-Life 2: Episode 3."

Still, this could be a good time for Valve to rise up from what has been quite the disappointing aftermath of the Steam Machine, controller, and SteamOS announcement.

Half-Life 3 and Steam Machines: Which is Better for Valve?

Early in 2014, the only news from Valve was the introduction of Steam Machines, which is supposedly the killer of the next-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One. At the start of 2014 (and two months after the next-gen consoles were unveiled), it seemed that Valve was very busy planning the next steps for Steam Machines and the SteamOS.

While that was all good and well, it was also around this time when fans thought that it would be a great idea and a nice selling point for the Steam Machines if "Half-Life 3" would be some sort of an exclusive to the machines.

Still, many hoped for that other side of Valve, which was the production of "Half-Life 3." If the unveiling of the Steam Machines came as a surprise--little to no hints of it were leaked leading to the reveal. But Valve didn't seem to be interested back then.

"When we started out we were a single-player video game company that could have been really successful just doing 'Half-Life' sequel after 'Half-Life' sequel, but we collectively said let's try to make multi-player games even though there's never been a commercial successful multi-player game," said Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, to Washington Post.

"We tried to do Steam. There were a bunch of people internally who thought Steam was a really bad idea, but what they didn't think was that they would tell the people who were working on Steam what to do with their time."

Moving on to Movies?

Beyond "Half-Life 3" as a game, there are also other media where fans can actually feel some sort of official movement.

Back in 2013, "Half-Life 3" has been announced as an upcoming movie for 2015, with J.J. Abrams sitting in the director's chair and with Newell giving an actual approval--as opposed to all of those speculations.

"We're going to find out if there's a way we can work with you on a Portal and Half-Life movie," said Newell during the DICE conference in 2013 as quoted by Kotaku. However, the very vague "confirmation," if one can even call it that, has not yet had any sort of update even a year after the supposed statement was made.

As far as official confirmations go, there are no castings or even a development as of yet, and it's already five months into 2014. In any case, Newell did express some form of interest here, and it may still be met except for the 2015 timeline.
