Microsoft is widely expected to refresh its Surface Pro and Surface Book line-up this year. Prevailing speculations indicate the tech giant will come up with the overhauled versions of the aforementioned devices by the fourth quarter of 2016.

Rumours suggest that Microsoft will unveil the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 at an event scheduled in October 2016. According to a reports, the next generations of the popular Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 will be announced at the same platform where the Surface Phone will be unveiled.

However, there has been no official announcement regarding the Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 release date.

There are also contradictory rumours that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date could be delayed until 2017. The much anticipated Surface Pro 5 is expected to sport a rechargeable stylus pen.

According to a patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Microsoft is working on a rechargeable Surface Pen and Surface Dock, as reported by Patently Mobile. The stylus of the current Surface Pro 4 works with either a button cell a triple A battery.

The Surface Pro 4 features a 12.3-inch display with the sixth-generation Intel Core M, i5 or i7 processors under its hood. The hybrid tablet runs on Windows 10.

The next generation of Surface Pro 4 is also expected to be powered by Intel Skylake processor. The device would reportedly come with pre-installed Windows 10 Redstone 2 OS.

Microsoft's Surface Book sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels. Running on Windows 10 Pro, the device boasts of a battery life of 10 hours on a single charge.

Microsoft has long been rumoured to be working on a Surface Phone which is also codenamed Panos Phone. The latest Microsoft Lumia 650 is said to be the last Lumia ever. The Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to come packed with top-notch specs and features and will give tough competition to Apple’s rumoured iPhone 7.
