The Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 is an immensely-anticipated device and recently, a Microsoft smartphone with the Surface Phone branding has just leaked in China. Weibo, a known leakster, was the first to upload the images of the alleged device that is said to have a camera with Carl Zeiss lens. The images could be false as the Carl Zeiss branding is no longer being used since 2013.

The images leaked show a Lumia-type device that has led many to believe it’s an older prototype. Thus, the leaked images cannot confirm that the smartphone shown is actually the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 that fans have been waiting for years. Leaked images of alleged Surface Phones have leaked online many times in the past though the recent leak shows a phone for the first time with the Surface Phone branding, reports PhoneArena.

Microsoft has not confirmed any of the leaks and has not revealed anything about the Surface Phone 2017. Earlier reports have all talked about a 2017 release of the Surface Phone though customers won’t be surprised if the phone is revealed in 2018 even. However, Microsoft has gone into a contract with Pegatron as its only ODM for producing the Surface Phone. Many believe Microsoft to jump back into the smartphone business with the Surface Phone.

If at all the phone showed in the latest leak is the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017, then fans at least will have an idea how the highly-expected device will look. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had earlier talked about the “ultimate mobile device” and creating phone categories with new form, new function and that will add new value, reports NPU. The Surface Phone is expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and latest Windows 10 updated version.
