A new behind-the-scenes picture from the production set of “The Last Kingdom” season 2 has been shared online. The picture teases another shield wall on the show. The fans can expect another big battle scene on the show, as the Saxons and the Danes clash for supremacy.

The following article contains minor spoilers from the next season of “The Last kingdom.” Readers who do not wish to know what to expect on the show next are advised to stop here.

There will be a shield wall in the next season, a post on the official Instagram page of the TV series confirms. There is a picture [see below] of the props used for this scene, but there are no details about who will be fighting in this battle.

Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon) taught the Saxon army how to form a shield wall in the previous season. The tactic will be used once again this year.

A shield wall gives the army protection from the attacks of a rival army. The formation allows the soldiers to move around as a unit, and strike a devastating blow to the opponents.

The show began with a massive battle between the Saxons and the Danes, with a tragic outcome for the defenders. However, the battle in “The Last Kingdom” season 2 will be different because Uhtred may be leading the men, and both sides are well aware of this battle tactic.

Green screen was used to film the battle scenes for the first season. The extras had to practice the action sequences multiple times, as the director wanted to make the scenes as brutal as possible. The camera was taken right in the middle of the action, to help the viewers get up close and personal in all the action.

The fight this time around will not be centered on the Saxons and the Danes entirely. Although Alfred (David Dawson) is keen on protecting his kingdom, the trailer of the new season teased how Uhtred is itching to get revenge on his uncle for taking away the lands that once belonged to his father.

“The Last Kingdom” season 2 is set to air sometime this year. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date. The show is yet to be added on Foxtel for Aussie audience, but it can be watched on Netflix. With the trailer already out, the fans may not have to wait too long for the show to return.
