It's the battle of the 7.0-inch tablets. In this case, the battle is between Kindle Fire and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0.

The Amazon Kindle Fire is the newest tablet offering by Amazon. The tablet's primary use is to be an e-reader but still contains the essential tablet features. It has a thickness measuring 0.45 in and weight of 14.6 oz. Kindle Fire has 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB storage capacity in which 6GB could be utilized for user content. This tablet contains Android 2.3 Gingerbread as its OS, Wi-Fi capability, and USB 2.0 (micro-B connector). Aside from these technical specifications, Kindle Fire offers free cloud storage and access for all Amazon content which has a wide range from books, music, videos, etc. The selling price for Kindle Fire is at US$199 which is considerably lower than other tablets in the market.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 is one of the first tablets that Samsung offered in the market. It is a 7-inch touchscreen tablet that weighs around 13.58 ounces and has 600 x 1024 Pixel Display Resolution. Operation Software is Android 2.2 Froyo with 1GHz A8 Cortex Processor. It also has 16GB Internal Memory and up to 32GB Expandable Memory. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 has front (1.3MP) and rear (3.0MP Auto Focus with flash) cameras. Connectivity is through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v3.0, and USB 2.0. Features of this tablet includes video conferencing, multimedia player, Internet browsing and e-mail, creating and editing Office documents in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

In terms of comparing the two tablets, both have the same 7-inch screen but differ in dimension and weight. Galaxy Tab is a little lighter if compared to Kindle Fire. Both tablets have the same OS (Android) though having different versions. For processors, both have dual-core processors but Galaxy Tab is able to process faster due to having 1.2GHz as opposed to Kindle Fire's 1GHz. Storage for Galaxy Tab has more options (16GB and 32GB plus expandable microSD slot) as compared to the storage capacity of 8GB by Kindle Fire.

As for availability, the Amazon Kindle Fire was just released in the U.S. and no official date of release was announced for other locations including Australia. On the other hand, Galaxy Tab 7.0 is already available online, in-store or through business plans in the Australian market.
