U.S. rapper Joey Bada$$ was arrested at the Byron Bay Falls Music and Arts Festival on Friday for allegedly punching a security guard. The 19-year-old hip-hop artist spent the night locked up in jail after he was refused bail.

ABC reports that the rapper, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Scott, was just about to perform on stage when he was approached by the security personnel for credentials. He then allegedly lashed out when challenged by the guard. He was arrested after he performed.

“A 20-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face by a man while working as a security guard at the festival,” a police spokeswoman confirmed to Fairfax. “The man was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries.”

Badass was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was refused bail initially, which was why he spent the night locked up. He has bailed to appear at the Byron Bay Local Court on March 19.

The “Curry Chicken” rapper is in Australia to promote his album “B4.Da.$$.” He will be taking the stage in Sydney and Melbourne this January.

In a separate news about the Byron Bay festival, a man was found dead at a campsite in a section of the North Byron Parklands where festival-goers camp overnight. The 26-year-old unnamed man was unconscious and not breathing when his friends found him on Wednesday, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The police hasn’t determined the cause of death yet, thought they are not treating it as suspicious. His relatives have been notified of his death. The Falls Music and Arts Festival has released a statement regarding the matter, saying, “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this terribly sad time.”
