iPhone 6 to Provide Only Marginal Battery Improvement

With iPhone 6 release date nearing, the expectations around the battery unit in specific are rife. In the hindsight, Apple has always been criticised for its relatively inferior battery unit, when compared to Android counterparts.

Going by the reports from China (via GforGames), Apple's iPhone 6 will reportedly come with only a marginal battery improvement. In specific, the battery unit will provide very minimal improvement from the iPhone 5S.

Apparently, the same Chinese media also revealed the battery specification of iPhone 6. The 4.7-inches iPhone 6 variant will house a battery unit between 1,800 and 1,900 mAh, whereas the 5.5-inches iPhone 6 model will come with a 2,500 mAh battery unit.

It is worth mentioning that, the iPhone 5S comes with 1,560 mAh battery unit and if the current reports were true, Apple will have tough time to battle with the imminent competition from all the high-end Android phones. Here is a list of high-end phones and their battery specifications

SmartphoneBattery Unit
Samsung Galaxy S52800 mAh
Sony Xperia Z23200 mAh
HTC One M82600 mAh
LG G33000 mAh
Nexus 52300 mAh
Moto X2200 mAh
iPhone 61,800 to 1,900 mAh (Reportedly)

The modest battery improvement is attributed to the ultra-thin design of the upcoming iPhone 6. As GforGames rightly points out, even though the bigger screen size of the iPhone 6 will create more volume for larger batteries while sustaining a thin profile, the screen itself would eat up the battery charge to back the higher pixel strength and the screen resolutions.

Moreover, the device's screen is not the only attribute that governs the battery life; hence Apple could work on the software and hardware performances to help sustain longer battery life. Not to forget, the new iOS 8 comes packed with battery improvements.
