There are two mid-range handsets in the market with similar names - the Huawei Honor 5X and Google Nexus 5X which is made by LG - but which device will win the ultimate battle?

We review and compare the price, specs and features of both phones to help you decide which you should buy.

Display

The Honor 5X comes with a bigger 5.5-inch display as compared to the Nexus 5X, which sports a 5.2-inch screen. Both the Honor 5X and Nexus 5X have similar display resolutions.

Processor and hardware

Under the hood, the Nexus 5X has a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor clocked at 1.8GHz, whereas the Honor 5X is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset. These specs mean the LG-Nexus 5X would outshine the performance of the Honor 5X, according to a report by AndroidPit.

The LG-Nexus 5X offers 16GB or 32GB internal storage but lacks expandable storage. On the other hand, the Honor 5X comes with 16GB of in-built storage with microSD support (up to 128GB). The Honor handset also comes with two different RAM configurations - 2GB or 3GB, reports Know Your Mobile.

Software

Another important differentiating factor would be the handsets' operating systems. The Nexus 5X runs on Google’s latest version of Android OS, the Marshmallow, while the Honor 5X runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with EMUI on top. The Google Nexus 5X enjoys all the standard Marshmallow features like Doze mode, Apps permission and Now on Tap.

Camera and battery

Both the Honor 5X and Nexus 5X feature a 13-megapixel main camera with f/2.0 aperture and 5-megapixel front-facing camera unit.

However, Huawei’s Honor 5X packs a bigger 3,000 mAh battery unit than Nexus 5X, which houses a 2,700 mAh battery to keep the lights on.

Price

The Huawei Honor 5X is available for US$199.99 (AU$278) in the United States. In Europe, the Honor 5X price starts at £189.99 (AU$385 or US$276).

The Google Nexus 5X is currently available at a discounted price of US$299.99 (AU$423) on Best Buy. Google has also been offering a $50 discount on the Nexus 5X over the last few weeks.

VERDICT: Go for the Google Nexus 5X, if you don't mind spending US$100 extra.
