If the rumours are to be believed, the HTC One M10's release date will fall on the first week of May. To be more precise, HTC will retail its One M10 smartphone in the US on the week of May 9.

The big question though is whether you would replace your current HTC One M9 with its successor. We compare the specs and features of both devices to help you understand how the upcoming flagship is better than its predecessor.

Display and design

The HTC One M9 comes with a 5-inch Full HD display. Previously it was speculated that the HTC One M10, dubbed the HTC Perfume, would feature a 5.1-inch QHD AMOLED display. But recent leaks (@LlabTooFeR) indicate that the device may rock a 5.2-inch WQHD screen instead.

The HTC One M10 may also sport a refreshing new design. The smartphone may arrive in a slim unibody all-metal design with IP68 certified chassis that will make it dust and water proof.

According to GSM Arena, HTC One M10 will give away its typical One M design and imbibe the look and feel of the popular HTC One A9.

Processor and storage

The HTC One M10 will reportedly be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor as compared to a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor which runs its predecessor.

The HTC One M9 houses 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 200GB. With the Adreno 530 GPU onboard for graphics, backed by 4 GB of RAM, the upcoming HTC One M10 will supersede the One A9, as reported by Android Pit. However, the new HTC device may also offer just 32GB of internal storage, like the One M9.

A tweet from the same leakster also claims that the HTC Perfume may be released in different markets with different processors onboard. The Snapdragon powered version may head to the US and Europe while HTC may consider incorporating a MediaTek processor for the Asian markets.

Software

HTC's upcoming flagship is expected to launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with HTC Sense over the top. The One M9 was released with Android 5.0 Lollipop onboard, but HTC has started rolling out the Marshmallow update to the device depending on carrier approvals and regions.

Battery and Camera

HTC is expected to pack the One M10 with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera sensor by Sony with laser auto-focus, optical image stabilisation and phase detection autofocus.

The HTC One M9 boasts a 20 MP camera equipped with dual-tone LED flash and auto-focus. Rumours are also rife that the HTC One M10 will be shipped with a 5MP UltraPixel front-facing camera sensor by Samsung.

There is very limited information about the battery of the purported HTC One M10. However, HTC is not known for packing its devices with massive batteries.

The One M9 features a 2,840 mAh battery unit whereas the One A9 comes with a 2,150 mAh battery cell. The Snapdragon 820 SoC is expected to bring support for Quick Charge 3.0.
