Google Play now allows its users to preregister for upcoming games and apps, after which the Android phone or tablet users will be notified when the games and apps will be available for download, according to reports.

According to a report on Android Police, the first app to get this honour is ‘Terminator Genisys: Revolution’ by game developer Glu Mobile. The game which will hit theatres on July 1 will be available on Google Play around the same time but details related to the price or release has not yet been listed on the app page, reports Android Police. The app’s landing page displays the video, screenshots and description, reports CNET.

The good part of this initiative is that Android customers will get an assurance that their Android apps are underway and by letting people pre-register for an app, Android customers are getting a clear message that they will be able to download it for their smartphones or tablets, as per the CNET report.

The disadvantage is users have no information about the release date, price, wait time, device compatibility, and availability in particular countries, reports CNET.

Google is now allowing select publishers to make their apps and games available for pre-registration before it goes on sale, reports Android Police. These titles have a pre-register button and users can put their name on the list, which neither cost anything nor does it entail an agreement to buy. Through pre-registration, users will only get a notification on when the app is finally released and when it could be purchased and installed to compatible Android based tablets and smartphones, reports Android Police. Customers can also remove themselves from the list by tapping the ‘Unregister’ button, mentions the Android Police report.

Pre-registrations will become a big part of promotions for the most awaited games and this should also cease the practice of publishing app listings with zero compatible devices, according to the Android Police report.

According to a PC Magazine report, it is still not clear whether all the apps uploaded to Google Play will be eligible for pre-release notifications or developers have to figure out ways to make the apps eligible or is Google picking up select apps for the pre-release functionality.
