Google is working on a new Nexus 7 tablet that will release in 2016 and the tablet’s arrival is being heralded by retailers reducing the price of the older Nexus 7 (2013) to only $100 (AU$137).

Google first released the 7-inch tablet, the Nexus 7, in 2012. In 2013, it released a successor model called Nexus 7 (2013). Both devices were built by Asus.

After having Huawei manufacture the Nexus 6P, Google is said to be working with the Chinese firm once again to make the new Nexus 7 tablet, G for Games reported. Even though the buzz is Google is collaborating with Huawei to build the Nexus 7 (2016) tablet, there’s no official confirmation on its existence.

Reports suggest Google wants Huawei to build the Nexus 7 (2016) tablet to popularize the Chinese brand in Western markets. In return, Google will be able to popularize Google Play Store in China.

Nexus fans were expecting Google to release another Nexus tablet in 2014 but this didn’t come to pass. Google is likely to release it next year, however. The tablet’s release seems to be imminent as the cost of the second generation Nexus 7 was slashed to just $100 on Groupon.

The price of the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet has been falling consistently, according to Android Police. A few weeks ago, the price of the tablet was reduced to about $124 (AU$170) and later to $109 (AU$150).

The Nexus 7 (2013) price was later slashed further to $100 (AU$137). The original price of the device on Groupon was $218 (AU$210).

The Nexus 7 (2013) is still very popular. It’s received the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade. Groupon is selling the Nexus 7 (2013) in different color variants such as grey, orange and pink.

The $100 (AU$137) price tag is a limited period sale. The retailer is also offering an Optional Travel Cover with the tablet.
