Galaxy S2 to Get ICS. Would this be Better Than iPhone 4S?
Samsung just announced that the Samsung Galaxy S2 will be utilizing the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) as the operating system of this popular mobile device.
This announcement was made through the 140-character limit network, Twitter. Here is the official tweet from @Samsung UK Twitter Feed: "Hi, good news-the Galaxy S II will be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet. We will keep you posted."
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was the first Samsung device to get the Android Ice Cream Sandwich as its OS. After launching Nexus, the company is now focused on updating the existing OS of their other devices which means that the Samsung Galaxy 2 is not the only Samsung device that would get an OS update. Samsung's Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1 (8.9-inch version and 7.7-inch version), and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus are all getting OS updates.
The Android 4.0 which is commonly known in the market as Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is the latest Android version in the market and it combines the best features of the earlier Android versions namely Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Once the new OS has been installed in the device, it would offer more stability in supporting features like Wi-Fi, sound devices, data, and camera.
In terms of comparing the Android ICS with Apple's iOS 5 (which is found in iPhone 4S), both OS offer different features for their users. For iOS 5, they have iCloud and wireless syncing which enables users to have a new instant message service, notification standards, and an improved browser. In the case of Android ICS, the main feature in this OS includes Face Unlock and Android Beam. It also highlights other features like a new home screen folder, re-sizable icons, etc. Both OS are stable in terms of performance and function. The question on whether or not the Android ICS is better than the Apple's iOS 5 is dependent upon the user's choice over the kind of smartphone model they would choose to buy.
The availability of the OS update is expected to be available in the market by the first quarter of 2012.
