TV series veteran and former model Susan Walters has been tapped to play Dr. Carla Tanhausser, Caitlin Snow’s mother, on “The Flash” season 3.

Dr. Tanhauser is a widely revered biomedical engineer and CEO of a large research company. While it appears that her scientific genius has been genetically passed on to her daughter, the two do not quite get along. Caitlyn finds her mother cold and withholding, while Carla sees her daughter as rebellious and ungrateful. This could cause a clash between the genius mother and daughter anytime in the season, says a report by EW .

The character was first introduced when Caitlin met her Earth-2 doppelganger Killer Frost who also shared the same cold sentiments with her mother. In the doppelganger’s case, the cold relationship arose from the death of her brother Charlie, which Caitlin never had, says a report by TV Line .

Walters has already been seen in a lot of other popular TV series. Her other roles would include Diane Jenkins in "The Young and the Restless," Anne Osborne in "The Big Easy," Tiffany Hart in "Melrose Place,: a starring role in "Dear John," Maia in "Star-Crossed," Natalie Martin in "Teen Wolf," Mayor Lockwood in "The Vampire Diaries," and a whole lot more. Her character is expected to recur during season 3 of “The Flash.”

She started her television career in 1983 on the soap opera Loving where she played Lorna Forbes Perelli. Her next role would be a film in 1987 entitled Russkie. Aaron Spelling worked closely with Walters in a lot of his projects. This led to Walters to star in "Hotel" in its last season, in "Elvis and Me" as Priscilla Presley and in "Nightingales" as Bridget Loring.

Walters is married to fellow actor Linden Ashby who she met while filming Loving where their characters were cousins. They have shared the screen numerous times on many different TV series. They have two daughters: Frances Grace who was born in 1991 and Savannah Elizabeth who was born in 1992.

The third season of “The Flash” returns on TV on Tuesday, October 4 at 8:00 PM on The CW Channel. In Australia, “The Flash” airs on Fox 8.
