“The Flash” Season 2, Episode 21 (“The Runaway Dinosaur”) aired May 10 on The CW, featuring Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison) as the image of Speed Force communicating to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). In the next episode, Barry faces the doppelganger of Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), known in Earth-2 as Black Siren.

Spoiler alert: This update contains “The Flash” Season 2 spoilers. This is a quick recap of the highlights of The Flash 2x21.

Where did Barry go?

To quickly recap The Flash 2x21, Barry finds himself in the heart of the Speed Force as a result of the particle accelerator explosion initiated by Earth-2 Harry Wells (Tom Cavanagh). Cisco (Carlos Valdes) a.k.a. Vibe assures everyone Barry is alive, but Iris (Candice Patton) tells Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) Barry is gone. Meanwhile, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) pushes Wally to show signs that he has become a speedster like The Flash, too.

After a meaningful conversation with the Speed Force, Barry is forced to deal with his guilt over failing to save his mother. Upon realising the root of his struggle, Barry hears Iris’ voice cutting through the Speed Force realm. He takes her hand and finds his way back to S.T.A.R. Labs. (Now Iris has to explain to Wally why she said Barry was gone.)

‘The Flash’ Season 2 Finale: Will Kid Flash and Jesse Quick help Barry fight Zoom?

Wally West is the Kid Flash of DC Comics, so fans are assuming that Joe’s son is about to be revealed as a new speedster in The CW series. Curiously, however, viewers only got to see sparks from Jesse (Violett Beane) in Episode 21.

The synopsis of Episode 22 says Wally will help Barry in his fight against the metahumans, but it is not clear how the “kid” would do it. It remains to be seen whether the title of “The Flash” Season 2, Episode 21 (“Invincible”) connects to Barry Allen, Wally West, or another aspect of the show.

Katie Cassidy crosses over, drops the Black Canary suit for a villainous Black Siren

Her character dies in “Arrow” Season 4, Episode 18 (“Eleven Fifty-Nine”), but Katie Cassidy is still getting a lot of screen time. Instead of suiting up as Laurel Lance a.k.a Black Canary, Cassidy is playing the metahuman Black Siren from Earth-2 in “The Flash” Season 2, Episode 22.

Barry attends Laurel’s funeral in Arrow 4x19, which aired two weeks ago on The CW. Although the timeline of the two shows is not perfectly synced, it is imaginable that Barry’s encounter with Black Siren will make him feel like he is fighting a ghost.

What happens next? Who is Zoom’s masked man captive on Earth-2?

Fans are expecting to find out the identity of Zoom’s masked prisoner. Is it a doppelganger of Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell), Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) or Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp)? This character is expected to be revealed before the Season 2 ending.

Incidentally, Barry’s dad Henry tells him in The Flash 4x21 that he will stay in Central City. Perhaps he would be a regular doctor at S.T.A.R. Labs.

At the end of “The Flash” Season 2, Episode 21, viewers are taken back to Zoom (Teddy Sears) and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), who is forced to choose between her friends and her own survival. Zoom is leading an army of metahumans from Earth-2 and they are on a mission to show no mercy to anyone who is not with Team Zoom.

Here is what Grant Gustin has to say about his character Barry:

“The Flash” Season 2, Episode 22 will air on The CW on May 17.
