The price for Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) share recently went down and closed at around US$26.90. The low share price was attributed to the problems and delay that the social networking site encountered.

Facebook received much attention during its initial public offering (IPO) and drew the interest of many investors. Aside from that, many people had high expectations from the company since it is the biggest social networking site to date. Though that is the case, the high expectations are not met and instead of improving, it is slowly and gradually going down. Facebook is facing the challenge of creating a new platform for revenue like online ads. Research studies have shown that most people now are accessing Facebook through their mobile phones and Facebook has none or minimal ads in mobile access. In order to appease their investors, Facebook has to find a way to turn out revenue in the best possible way. On the other hand, other social networking site such as LinkedIn and Google+ have performed well despite the downward spiral that Facebook encountered.

In line with that, Sean Parker, the first investor and founding president of Facebook together with Napster founder Shawn Fannings introduced a new service today for Facebook users. Parker remarked that he was already "bored" by the social network and this new feature could give life to Facebook. This new feature is called "Airtime" and this is a video site that is connected with the Facebook platform which has a "next" button which enable users to find a random chat partner. This feature is similar to the previous online video service by Chatroulette. Most of the features in Airtime and Chatroulette are similar but it also has additional features like watching Youtube videos together with the chat partner.

Though this feature utilizes the Facebook platform, it is considered outside Facebook's area of interest because it already has its hands full. Parker also added his own opinion about Facebook stating ""Facebook isn't helping you make new connections, Facebook doesn't develop new relationships, Facebook is just trying to be the most accurate model of your social graph. There's a part of me that feels somewhat bored by all of this. There's no room for serendipity."
