Previously, the mobile industry was ruled by Blackberry and Nokia. Today both the phone companies are trying to keep up with the market. The Canadian company made previous attempts to try to fight head on with Apple and Samsung to get its product to sell. But it did not offer enough to users to jump back to Blackberry though its phones were not so bad. The phone is called Passport as it is designed in the same dimension of an International Passport. On the other hand, Nokia Lumia Icon comes with a windows platform and it too is packed with a lot of things. This is an opportunity to compare Blackberry and Nokia the old players in the mobile market.

Design

The Blackberry Passport is 128mm in height and 90.3mm in width. This smartphone is 9.3mm slim and weighs 196 grams. By its looks it is square in shape unlike any other phone in the market. The 3 lines touch keyboard at the bottom of the screen is a relief when compared to their previous models.

The Nokia Lumia Icon is 137mm in height and 77mm in width and 9.8mm slim. This smartphone is better looking than the Blackberry Passport. Though Nokia phone is less wide than the Blackberry it makes up for it in the height and is more pleasant to the eyes. The Blackberry when held in the hand would feel uncomfortable due to its broad width.

Display

The resolution of the Blackberry is 1,440 x 1,440 with 24 bit colour depth and the display is 4.5 inches. Due to the pixels Blackberry is calling it a future device as higher pixel density with 453 pixels per inch the padding and the margins appear smaller. The display size of the Nokia Lumia Icon is 5 inches with a full HD resolution 1,920 x 1,080. While the screen size is almost the same except for the shape of the screen.

Processor

Blackberry Passport works on the Blackberry 10 operating system. Under the hood it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with 2.2GHz Quad-Core CPUs (MSM8974-AA) along with a Adreno 330, 450MHz GPU with 3 GB RAM.

Nokia Lumia Icon works on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-core processor with a clock time of 2.2 GHz. The Snapdragon 801 can decode more instructions per clock (IPC) making it a superior processor. The Snapdragon 800 and 801 processors are essentially the same (Krait 400) processors with speed bumps across the board. When the phones are used there would be not much of noticeable difference in their speed and functioning.

Memory

Blackberry Passport has a 32 GB flash memory with a microsd card slot expandable up to 128 GB. However, the Nokia Lumia Icon has the same 32 GB internal memory the only drawback is that it does not have expandable memory. On this point some users may be disappointed.

Camera

The Passport has a 13 mega pixels rear facing camera with 2 mega pixels front facing camera. The Lumia Icon on the other hand has a 20 mega pixels Pure View camera and the front facing camera is 1.2 wide angle camera. Here the Lumia Icon has beaten the Blackberry Passport. The Lumia camera can take beautiful crystal clear pictures when compared with the Blackberry.

Battery

Blackberry has a battery power of 3,450 mAH and the Lumia 2,420 mAh. Clearly the capacity of the Blackberry battery is more than the Lumia and with the specifications both the phones are equipped with the battery power needs to be more for the phone to function for a longer time. Blackberry has given the Passport that power.

Price

The Blackberry Passport factory unlocked smartphone is priced at $599.99 on Amazon. Since this phone has already sold 200,000 handsets it is temporarily out of stock on Amazon. The Lumia Icon is priced at $99 to $499 depending on the carrier and plans offered on Amazon.
