The "Big Bang Theory" Season 9 Episode 11, titled "Opening Night Excitation," was one of the most awaited episodes of the popular CBS sitcom, as it was announced last month that Sheldon and Amy are finally going to have sex on the episode that airs on Dec. 17. The episode "Opening Night Excitation" did not disappoint.

Here is a Recap of "The Big Bang Theory" Season 9 Episode 11:

Sheldon (Jim Parsons) ponders over the best gift for his girlfriend, Amy (Mayim Bialik), on her birthday. He considers offering her a chance to play harp with the L.A. Philharmonic, or a trip to the Wisconsin Wool and Sheep Festival. He finally decides on physical intimacy, telling Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Bernadette (Melissa Raunch): “Amy’s birthday present will be my genitals.”

Sheldon tells Penny and Bernadette that he finds the idea of intimacy frightening, but he wants Amy to know she is important to him. However, he faces a major mental dilemma, as Amy's birthday falls on the same day as the new "Star Wars" film premiere, to which he had already booked tickets.

After Professor Proton (Bob Newhart) appears in his dream and says that Sheldon must choose Amy, as he can watch the movie some other day, Sheldon gives up on his tickets.

Amy finds out from Bernadette and Penny about Sheldon's plan to have sex with her on her birthday. She gets the mood going by lighting up her living room with candles. When Sheldon arrives, she says she wants to do presents first and confesses that she knows that he plans for them to be intimate on her birthday. They soon end up in bed. Amy is seen in a pink knee length night dress, while Sheldon waits nervously in the bed. Despite their reservations and lack of experience, the two end up liking their first time under the sheet.

“I enjoyed that more than I thought I would,” Sheldon admits, adding “I look forward to your next birthday when we do it again.”

Meanwhile, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and others go to the movie without Sheldon, where they wonder if the movie would live up to its hype. They give Sheldon's tickets to Wil Wheaton, which turns out to be a bad idea when he shows up in "Star Trek" attire and gets booed. The gang ends up liking the movie.

A few nights later, Professor Proton appears again in Sheldon's dream and asks him how it was, referring to his night with Amy. But, Sheldon misunderstands the question and replies that he enjoyed the "Star Wars" movie and so did Amy.
