Like any popular AAA game, "Battlefield: Hardline" will be getting its first DLC instalment as well. "Criminal Activity" is the appropriately named title of the DLC, which includes four new map packs and a host of toys designed to spice up the heists. While it was expected for the DLC to follow the same four new maps and a few goodies formula adopted by the "Battlefield" franchise, the makers of the cops vs robbers game have revealed more information on the DLC pack.

The additional details come straight from the horse's mouth. "Battlefield: Hardline's" multiplayer Producer Zach Mumbach revealed more information about the DLC through the Don'tReviveMeBro podcast. The Producer revealed that two of the four new maps play out during night time to give players a new perspective. It was revealed that the maps will be based loosely around locations in California and Florida. All maps will continue the game's urban theme, which is crucial considering its cops-and-robbers dynamics.

The map pack also aims to address a common criticism about the game lacking enough of the franchise's hallmark destructible environments, as reported by VG247. The DLC will emphasise the aspect of destruction, but it will do so in a more intuitive manner by making it easy to ascertain which parts of the scenery are destructible and which aren't. Mumbach states that the new maps will have "a little bit more" destruction and perform a better job of visually indicating environment destructibility.

What good is a "Battlefield" game without vehicles? The "Criminal Activity" DLC won't disappoint, as Mumbach has promised the inclusion of new vehicles. Unfortunately, those pining for the inclusion of airplanes are in for a disappointment. The Producer has ruled out the concept of flying because it doesn't fit in with "Hardline's" level design and gameplay mechanics.

"I just don't see how to work it into the fiction of what we're doing," said Mumbach during the podcast according to IGN. "I'm not necessarily anti-planes, but when I play [Battlefield 4], it just feels like they're fighting each other."

Mumbach has a point, because "Hardline" differs from a traditional "Battlefield" game in terms of level design and gameplay. The former is a cops-vs-robbers game where stealth and close quarters battle have assumed a greater importance. This is evident in the reduced scope and size of the maps as well. Adding airplanes to this setup therefore doesn't make much sense in terms of gameplay.

The Multiplayer Producer, however, was reluctant to share details regarding the sort of content available to premium and non-premium members. The only thing Mumbach revealed was that both categories of subscribers will have something to look forward with the upcoming DLC. The exact release date also remains a mystery, as it's already known that the "Criminal Activity" DLC is set to arrive sometime in mid-2015.
